On April 20th, 2016, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Field of Psychiatric Neuroscience (Approval Notice).

General Field: Psychiatric Neuroscience

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Postdoctoral Fellow

Country of Origin: India

Service Center: Texas Service Center (TSC)

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Texas

Approval Notice Date: April 20th, 2016

Processing Time: 4 months, 2 days

Case Summary:

With a Ph.D. in Cellular and Structural Biology and 9 years of experience immersed in the field of psychiatric neuroscience, our client was a suitable candidate for EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver). We ensured that we left no stone unturned in our quest to compile as much information as we could on his various accomplishments. Amongst other things, here is what we included in our client’s EB-2 NIW petition packet:

  1. Research outcome: Our main goal was to convince the USCIS that our client’s work on the molecular biology of genes and proteins involved in psychiatric and mental disorders—such as schizophrenia and alcohol abuse—is important to the United States. We demonstrated that his efforts benefit the U.S. healthcare and pharmaceutical domains, and we also proved that not many other researchers with similar qualifications can attain such impactful research results.
  2. Testimonials from peers: As with all our clients, we lent a hand in selecting this postdoctoral fellow’s recommenders. The six shortlisted candidates whom we chose were familiar with his work, making them ideal to attest to its importance. Our client persuaded them to contribute recommendation letters, one of whom stated that “As one of the most prominent names in this area, [Client] has considerably increased knowledge of the processing of a protein associated with schizophrenia, strengthening scientific research throughout a variety of dependent fields. Taken into consideration with the translational value of his own work, it is clear that [Client’s] work is of major value to the field and that he is an irreplaceable presence in the research sphere.”
  3. Publication & Citation Record: When we filed the case, our client’s research had led to 5 articles, 1 book chapter, and 10 conference presentations. Furthermore, we noted that his work had accumulated 65 citations. As a bonus piece of evidence for the USCIS to sink their teeth into, we also listed our client’s experience assessing the work of his peers (14 instances).

The USCIS spent a little over 4 months reviewing our client’s case before granting their approval. We congratulate our client for qualifying for the national interest waiver. He also retained our services to help him file an EB-1A (Alien of Extraordinary Ability) petition. We join him as he awaits a favorable decision from the USCIS, and we wish him well as he continues to conduct outstanding research.
