General Field: Genetics

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Research Associate

Country of Origin: China

Service Center: Nebraska Service Center (NSC)

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Ohio

Approval Notice Date: April 26th, 2017

Processing Time: 7 days (Premium Processing Requested)

Case Summary:

Discussing the importance of one of our client’s research projects—one that tackles genetic factors behind substance abuse—an assistant professor specializing in genetics noted the following in his recommendation letter: “[Client]’s research furthers the advancement of available treatment plans for victims of substance abuse by elucidating the relevant molecular mechanisms behind the condition. Substance abuse is often conceived as a developed trait, but there is overwhelming evidence that suggests it is heritable; [he] is identifying the underlying mechanisms.”

This recommendation letter and the three others contributed by other experts in the field of genetics supported the importance of our client’s research on identifying the genomic variants and molecular factors behind human complex diseases. North America Immigration Law Group (WeGreened.com) incorporated these letters into our client’s EB-1A petition packet to strengthen the case. The petition dossier also contained information related to other areas of our client’s wide-ranging body of work such as his 37 peer-reviewed scientific articles that were cited 776 times. Apart from that, we also noted that he regularly performs peer reviews for esteemed journals—which at the time of filing totaled 32—and has served as an editorial board member for one journal.

We persuaded the USCIS that our client’s strong background in biotechnology and genetics has allowed his research to be particularly useful in preventing and treating serious cardiovascular diseases. Thanks to his unrelenting work in the field, an influential genetics expert strongly urged that “the United States…retain the unparalleled knowledge of [Client], who is uncovering the hidden genetic and molecular mechanisms that are at the root of substance abuse.”

With the help of Premium Processing, adjudication of our client’s EB-1A case was expedited and the approval notice was received in 8 days. Satisfied with our work, our client opted to retain our services for the final step in the green card process: filing the I-485 for him and his dependent. We thank our client for continuing to work with us and we join him as he waits for the USCIS to take action on their I-485 applications.
