Case Summary:

A Research Fellow in the field of Biochemistry has received approval for an Alien of Extraordinary Ability petition after only 22 days. The client in this case specializes in membrane protein structural biology, specifically for pharmaceutical research. The client’s major work was to uncover a critical target for new influenza treatments that the virus cannot develop resistance. With 14 journal articles, 28 conference presentations, and 504 citations at the time of filing, the client had clearly demonstrated a strong influence on the international community of medical and biochemistry researchers. As a testament to this influence, one of the client’s independent recommenders stated “Combining their academic significance with their applicability for drug development, [the client’s] studies were some of the most important of this decade.”  In the petition, we were able to effectively argue that the client had made original contributions of major significance in the field of biochemistry, had evidence of authorship in professional publications, and had experience as a judge of a work of others in the field. Moreover, we successfully argued that the client had met a fourth criterion stating that his research had been covered in major media publications with widespread circulation. Through demonstrating the prestige of the journals in which the client was published and the media channels that his work appeared in, and through establishing other objective evidence of the client’s status at the top of the field, we were able to definitively prove that the client qualified as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability.
