“Thanks for the good news. I appreciate your professional work, complete answers and quick replies.”

On April 21, 2017, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Graduate Research Assistant in the Field of Electrical Engineering (Approval Notice).

General Field: Electrical Engineering

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Graduate Research Assistant

Country of Origin: Iran

Service Center: Nebraska Service Center (NSC)

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Wisconsin

Approval Notice Date: April 21, 2017

Processing Time: 11 months, 15 days

Case Summary:

North America Immigration Law Group (NAILG) helped a graduate research assistant from Iran acquire EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition approval. Although our client was still pursuing his Ph.D. when we filed the case, he was nonetheless very competent in conducting outstanding research focused on promoting strategies for achieving higher power density at lower costs, and novel energy storage systems for the integration of renewable energy into power electronics systems. We worked diligently to prove to the USCIS that our client is contributing to the energy sector of the United States, which is constantly striving to incorporate technology and methods dedicated to improved energy efficiency.

Drafting the petition:

While preparing the NIW case, we looked at our client’s educational and professional qualifications and included what we learned in the petition. We noted that he had a master’s degree in electrical engineering and that his research is benefitting the scientific community. This was adjudged by the 26 citations accumulated from his 8 peer-reviewed publications (2 journal papers and 6 conference papers). Apart from this, we also noted his review work of 40 peer reviews conducted for numerous prestigious journals in the field.

Letters of recommendation:

The NIW petition received a boost from the recommendation letters contributed by other distinguished experts in the field. These letters detailed our client’s academic achievements and research projects, and shed light on the highly urgent nature of his efforts in aiding the United States to have more sustainable power options. Endorsing our client’s continued stay in the country, one recommender wrote: “[Client]’s work has consistently produced relevant, dependable, and unique results that can-and have been-used by researchers and industry professionals all over the world. Looking at what [Client] has achieved thus far in his career, it is certainly reasonable to assume that he will continue producing important research results and highly practical techniques that move forward the field of power electronics and its related industries.”

Although it took a little longer for the approval to come through (it normally takes the USCIS an average of 4-9 months to adjudicate I-140 petitions but in this case, we waited 11.5 months), we are delighted that our efforts led to NIW approval. Satisfied with our meticulous service, our client opted to continue working with us on the last step of the green card process: filing the I-485 application. We thank him for doing so and look forward to receiving I-485 approval.
